UNIT 4. Fourth clue my dear Watson...

GRAMMAR

Can/Can't are called modal verbs, this means they are known as independent verbs, they do not usually follow ordinary rules for tenses, negation or other issues. One of their features is the fact of becoming auxiliaries for their negatives and questions. Possible translations into Spanish include: poder, saber and (se + puede). (Can 7 can't se conocen como verbos modales, esto quiere decir que se conocen como verbos independientes, normalmente no siguen reglas comunes para los tiempos, la negación u otras cuestiones. Una de sus características es el hecho de convertirse en auxiliares para sus negativas e interrogativas. Entre sus posibles traducciones al español incluyen: poder, saber y se + puede).

"Like" contains a special structure. In general, you will find like followed by an ing verb but you will also see like to+ infinitive. Normally, to talk about hobbies and what you usally enjoy doing in your free time you use like + ing. (Like contiene una estructura especial. En general, encontréis like seguido de un verbo en ing, pero también veréis like con to + infinitivo. Generalmente, para hablar de los hobbies y lo que os gusta hacer normalmente en vuestro tiempo libre se usa like +ing)

Object pronouns are used after verbs and prepositions. They can be translated as me, te, le, nos, os, les, a/para/de... mí, a ti, a él, a ella, a nosotros/as, a vosotros/as, a ellos/as. Do not confuse them with possessive adjectives or pronouns. Los pronombres objetos se utilizan despues de los verbos y las prepositiones. Se pueden traducir como me, te, le, nos, os, les, a/para/de... mí, a ti, a él, a ella, a nosotros/as, a vosotros/as a ellos/as. No los confundáis con los adjetivos o pronombres posesivos.
Practice 1
Practice 2
(just pay attention to the position of the pronouns in the sentence)

Possessive pronouns make the function of a noun since they are pronouns. They do not need anything next to them. You will often find them at the end of sentences, making reference to something already mentioned in the sentence or in previous ones. Remember that possessive adjectives need the "object possessed" following them whereas possessive pronouns do not. (Los pronombres posesivos hacen la función de un nombre ya que son pronombres. No necesitan nada junto a ellos. A menudo los encontrarás al final de las frases, haciéndo referencia a algo ya mencionado en la frase o en frases anteriores. Recuerda que los adjetivos necesitan el objeto poseido detrás mientras que los pronombres posesivos no).
