GRAMMAR
The Past Simple Tense is used for actions that took place in the past. They are viewed as finished actions which are placed on a precise moment within the past time. As you may notice verbs can be divided into regular and irregular ones. The former add an -ed to the verb root, the latter have a different form, nothing to do with the -ed thing. (Como podréis haber notado, los verbos se pueden dividir en regulares e irregulares. Los primeros añaden -ed a la raíz del verbo, los segundos tienen una forma distinta, nada que ver con el tema del -ed).
VOCABULARY
Word formation is quite common in English, by that English words change into a different category. That is to say, a noun may become a verb or an adjective, an adjective may turn into a noun or a verb, etc... (see the words art-artist, as an example). This phenomenon may take place thanks to suffixes, but other times nothing is needed, that is the case of bottle/to bottle, for instance. (La formación de palabras es bastante común en Inglés, con ello las palabras cambian de categoría. Esto es, un nombre puede convertirse en un verbo o en un adjetivo, un adjetivo se puede transformar en un nombre o en un verbo, etc.. (ved las palabras art/artist (arte/artista) como ejemplo). Este fenómeno puede darse gracias a los sufijos, aunque otras veces no se requiere nada, ese es el caso de bottle/to bottle (bottela/embotellar), por ejemplo).
When using the Past Tense, some past time expressions are needed to place the action on a particular moment in the past time. Let's practise them. PRONUNCIATION and LISTENING
-ed endings in the Past Tense have a particular pronunciation depending on the final sound: /d/ /t/ or /id/. Let's see the rules and practice the pronunciation. Irregular verbs have also a particular pronunciation, which may mislead us when seeing the written form. It's a must to learn how to pronounce them properly or we will fail in our communicative porpose when talking. (Los verbos irregulares también tienen una pronunciación particular, que puede confundirnos cuando vemos la forma escrita. Es un deber aprender como pronunciarlos bien o fracasaremos en nuestro proposito comunicativo a la hora de hablar).
